Gotta love those rain storms that get you out of work!  So apparently over the weekend (i was gone) we got dumped on.  Several of the metro stations are flooded, some underground roads, and the basements of the American History and Natural History museums which is where my job is at.  It took out the power in the museums and so we're closed.  Whoohoo for getting paid to sit at home and do nothing!  It was a very nice surprise after coming home from a very busy weekend.  Brandon and I flew up to the cities and then drove up to Fergus Falls with Travis and his girlfriend to attend a wedding.  It was a lot of fun.  The couple got married at her parents house on the lake.  It was SO beautiful.  We were up way to late every night and drank probably a bit much.  But then you're supposed to go all out for weddings right?  We wrapped up the weekend with a ride on their pontoon out on the lake.  It was so relaxing.

  • Back in March we had a benefit auction to raise money for the scholorship fund for where I work.  Along with the many business donations, each class was to make a gift to auction off as well.  My class made a story book.  It turned out so cute and was a huge hit at the auction.  Their was huge competition between the parents to get the book and it ended up going for $235.  Here is a link to pictures of it.  Sorry about the glare.

Hello All.  I hope everyone is doing well.  It sounded like it from what my husband said when he got to hang out with you all - made me very jealous.  Things have been good here.  Brandon and I had big plans to go camping in the Shenandoah Mountains (more like big tree covered hills, but still very pretty) over Memorial Day weekend.  Apparently everyone in DC decided to go camping there as well.  We left early Saturday morning to avoid the horendous Memorial Day Weekend traffic, but when we arrived at the park, we found out that every single camp ground had filled up the night before.  ARG!  We even hovered to see if we could snag a camp site from someone leaving that day, but there were so many people hovering that it didnt help.  So we ended up just having a nice days drive I guess. It was all right.

In other entertaining news, I had quite the afternoon yesterday, and the bruises and cuts to prove it.  Yesterday afternoon we (my class of two year olds) planned on having popsicles out on the mall (grassy area between the Smithsonian Museums).  Well on our way to the popsicle eatting spot it started to rain.  So we just grabbed some boxes and headed back inside.  Well when we got to the many steps heading up into the museum it really started to pour.  I only had one child with me so I just picked him up and started to quickly go up the stairs.  In the proccess, I tripped and fell flat on my face, popsicle box when sliding away.  Thank God the kid didn't get hurt, he fell on me so I mangaged to sustain all of the injuries to my knee, thight, and elbow.   Yikes!  The whole rest of the way in he had the look on his face like what the hell just happened?

  • I will be flying into Fargo this Saturday afternoon (Feb 25th).  Brandon's Grandpa passed away yesterday afternoon so I am coming out for the Memorial Service.  I am leaving Tuesday afternoon so I will not be there long.  I am not sure that I will be able to meet up with any of you since this will be such a quick trip and mostly spent in Fessenden, but I thought I'd fill you in.

  • OK so I just realized that while have told a few people about Brandon's mole, I never posted it on here, so you may be wondering what the hell after you read the other post.  So here's the deal.  Brandon had this mole on the top of his head that I had been nagging him to get checked for about a year.  In November he finally listened to me and went in.  The doc removed it and sent it into a lab to get tested.  He said no news in 10 days and you're fine.  Well 20 days later we get a call from him saying that it was melanoma and that he needed to decide what further steps we needed to take.  He went in for another meeting with the doctor and found out that the cancer was at the junction between the 2 layers of skin (epidermis and dermis).  The doc said since it hadn't grown into the dermis (where all the blood vessels are) he was still alright and a simple surgery removing more skin should take care of it.  So he had surgery a couple weeks ago removing a pretty large chunk of skin from his head and then stitched it up.  And that brings you up to speed with the other post.

About Me

  • I have a pet cat named Stewart Jebadiah Hirsch. He provides most of the enterainment around the house as he has quite the personality and is still very much a kitten. I work at the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center as the Lead Toddler Teacher. I absolutly love it there even though the kids sometimes drive me crazy; although my co-workers drive me crazy sometimes too... My husband Brandon is a Systems Adminstrator in Senetor Byron Dorgan's Office; which is why I moved to DC.
